Our Mission

Theater of India exists for one purpose: to become the most comprehensive, accessible, and authoritative resource on Indian theater ever created.

India has one of the oldest and richest theatrical traditions in the world — spanning over 2,000 years, dozens of regional forms, hundreds of languages, and countless artists who devoted their lives to the stage. Yet this incredible heritage has no single home on the internet. We want to change that.

What We Do

Document History — We research and publish comprehensive articles on the history of Indian theater, from the Natyashastra to the present day.

Celebrate the Unsung — We seek out and tell the stories of theater artists who were never given the recognition they deserved.

Preserve Traditions — We create detailed profiles of every regional theater form in India, from Kutiyattam to Jatra.

Connect the Community — We bring together theater lovers, practitioners, students, and researchers to celebrate and support Indian theater.
